Missing you Doctor!

22 08 2008

My instructor(she is also a qualified physiotherapist) is away to attend a seminar last couple of weeks.  Frankly, the fitness class minus her is just that a “fitness class”, it’s definitely without the fun part of fitness! We all really miss her presence, her inputs, her cheerful banter, her amazingly toned body with stamina to match. Not to mention her abundant energy coupled with enthusiasm which is what makes all the back-breaking exercises fun.  She is definitely a great inspiration to me to keep it going and give the entire fitness funda my best shot. She adds a lot of variations so the entire class is a new experience each day!

Gently nudging someone here, urging someone to go for a couple of crunches more or pushing someone to do a couple of minutes more on the killer treadmill in her own sweet way. Peppering her banter with words of appreciation and encouragement really wants you to do more.  It’s difficult not to listen to her for even the most stubborn exercise haters.  Her expertise and experience help us in targetting specific problem areas that each of us have with specific exercises to work out on the same.

All of us eagerly await her return so we can get back to enjoying our workouts to the fullest instead of just following the fitness program charts she has prepared for us mechanically!

Do the Hula Hoop!

21 08 2008

Watch your waistline get back its natural curve as you twist it with the Hula hoop.  I recently picked up the art of doing the Hula hoop in my workout class.  I took about a week to learn.  Initially, it just wouldn’t stay and kept falling off after about just 1-2 rounds.  It kept falling down and I kept picking it up and trying.  Not being able to do it right was quite discouraging, sometimes made me just want to stop trying even. Then, one day, I was like, voila! I could just do it…20, 25, 40 and so on. My best count y’day was easily about 100.  The others around me were like “WOW” and asking me how I do it??!! The hula had me hooked and how!

How :

Firstly, its important to focus on yourself and forget about others watching (i.e.if there are spectators as in  my case) Next, you have to, I repeat ,have to move your waist, it will not stay on your waist other wise.  The idea is it should not lose body contact or it will fall.  Once you get into the rhythm you just have to maintain it.  Although when you watch someone doing it, it may seem simple (you will enjoy doing it once you get the hang of it), you will feel the impact of it once you have stopped.  The feeling is like what you get after a good round of cardio!

The hoop adds a wonderful variation to your workout routine, making it fun and helps reduce your waistline! So, go right ahead and pick up that Hula hoop now!
